Ty, wish more servers were reviewed like this. You did a great job expressing the server tour.
I got a couple of these off Ebay a few months ago (not from bargain hardware) & they run pretty well.
Thank you for a brilliant video. I think a good suitable graphic card that would suit the purpose is Quadro RTX4000. Single slot, powerful and exact with the power available to these servers. Sadly price of each is CAD $1230. But if you place four of them they will not be coffined in due to the heat. They will operate perfectly. I have 2 of these servers.
Bargain Hardware is good at packaging, all my servers I bought have survived, and we are talking Swedish postal service here for the last part of the trip.... so that is impressive, have a great Christmas!
with all that GPU space, you could run a fantastic machine learning / AI system!.
The metal shroud at the front of the GPU risers is to direct airflow for cards that need forced-air because they have no cooling fan onboard. Things like the Xeon Phi cards and other datacenter targeted compute cards like the NVIDIA TESLA need air forced through them constantly.
I do also agree on the tiny screw thing, captive screws would be better and still relatively cheap. I'd bet though, given they haven't built everything to be toolless, it's quite a bit cheaper than the big guns.
Those metal holes at the back of the bracket are for inserting screws into, for example, a Quadro card in place of the stabilizer plate.
Well looks like a powerful server with nice CPUs..
I think that expansion slot at the top probably allows for an external sas connection to a jbod if you wanted to do that.
i kinda wanna build my home lab more than the servers im scared of the power costs xD
its possible that the one area your not sure what its used for could be where someone could attach a support bracket for them heavy GPUs as ive seen some ones that needed some support
great content :) ive been trying to get my boss to sponsor this channel . he just dosnt understand youtube lol
It seems GPU power connector should be placed on the back as opposed to the top, to prevent cable interference
Wrt the 8 pin power cables: i would just do one GPU per cable. The 6+2 and 8 come from one port on the MB. All you need now is for Santa to deliver the GPUs. Don't forget it would help with FAH. Merry Christmas!
Morten making more jokes, i like it :D
Lol, Im pretttty sure Bargain Hardware was hoping for a review which was a little bit more positive :-) I fully agree with you though on the findings. Asus have little experience in the enterprise market and it shows.. Also, those 7 beefy fans look like they will do a great jet engine imitation? ;-)
just bought a bunch of disks from them, wish i'd known about the discount code before.
Time for a new mortgage to fill the server with fun toys.
Wait, what? Only £255.60 with two 8 core Xeons v2?! Veeeeery nice.
